iyengar yogaClasses are taught according to the method developed by Shri B.K.S. Iyengar, who at age 89, still practices yoga daily. The yogic philosophical precepts of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, which detail moral, ethical and spiritual growth and responsibility, are the underlying foundation of the system.We emphasize establishing a personal practice as a path for discovering the benefits of yoga for oneself. Classes are an opportunity to acquire the knowledge and experience necessary to build a safe and effective practice. our classeslevel I-II This mixed level class is for beginning and continuing students in the Iyengar yoga method. Instruction in the fundamentals of body alignment through basic yoga postures and introduction to more complicated standing, sitting, twisting, forward bending, back bending, and inverted postures.mixed level This class is for students with previous yoga experience in the Iyengar method. level III-IV This challenging class is for experienced students of Iyengar yoga with a regular personal yoga practice that includes Sirsasana and Sarvangasana. You must obtain the permission of the instructor to attend prior to class. gentle This is a slower-paced class where poses are taught with more modifications and props to accommodate older students or those with mild chronic health conditions. Please obtain your Doctor's permission before enrolling for this class. pranayama Pranayama is the fourth limb of yoga, the study and control of the breath. Learn relaxation and breathing techniques. Prerequisite 6 months of yoga experience or permission from the instructor. kids yoga For children ages 8-12 to learn yoga postures in a playful, safe and calming environment. Parents may stay and watch or relax in the library. teen yoga Open to teens in grades 9-12. Learn with other high school students the ancient Indian art of self-discipline and development. Practicing yoga postures and learning how to focus and relax helps teens deal with stress; develop strength, flexibility, and stamina; improve the body’s posture and alignment; and become more centered. drop-in visitors Drop-in visitors are welcome before June 30 to try Gentle Yoga or level I-II. Students with previous Iyengar yoga experience are welcome to drop-in to our mixed level classes. Drop-in tuition is listed on our registration page. private yoga instruction:Provides exclusive attention for the discerning serious student wanting to develop practice sequences to meet their unique needs, or simply to deepen their understanding of yogic practice and philosophy. |
